The American Veterans Committee was founded in 1944, during World War II, as a liberal veterans organization. Targeted in anti-communist campaigns in the late 1940s, it lost significant membership, but continued through 2007, when the last two chapters closed. Originally part of the Cambridge Chapter, a separate Harvard Chapter of the American Veterans Committee was established in 1946.
